James Kelly is in charge of the jail, and there are 14 correctional officers employed by the jail. Visitation with inmates is held on Sundays, from 1 pm to 3 pm, except for the 5th Sunday of the month. Inmates may only receive visitors every other Sunday. Visits are limited to 15 minutes.

The Houston County Jail is located on East Main Street in Dothan, and is headed by Captain Keith Reed. On any given day, there are nearly 300 inmates at the jail. Face-to-face visitation with inmates is allowed, as are video and telephone visits. There is a fee for video visits. Inmates who want to receive visitors must complete a visitors list, which can only be updated twice a year. Inmates are allowed one 30 minute visit per designated weekend, with a maximum of 2 visitors per visit. Visitation days and times are determined by the sex and location of the inmate.
