Ashville is the County Seat of St. Clair County. Columbiana is the County Seat of Jefferson County. Leeds has a population of 11,773 residents, and the mayor is David Miller. One of the larger police departments in the area is the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where Mark Levie Pettway is the sheriff. Divisions within the sheriff’s office include patrol, corrections, criminal investigations, court services, school resource officers, and internal affairs.

Approximately 1,000 inmates are housed daily between the two Jefferson County facilities. The Deputy Chief of Corrections is Cleveland Moore. The Sheriff’s Office includes patrol, criminal, and corrections divisions, along with offering resources to schools and courts.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is another police department in the area, located in Ashville, and Billy Murray is the Sheriff. Divisions within the sheriff’s office include the canine unit, the county jail, DARE, investigations, operations, patrol, and school resource officers. There are two county jails located within St. Clair County, one in Ashville and one in Pell City. Paul Monk is the Jail Administrator.

The Corrections Division is headed by Captain Russell Bedsole and is located on the premises with the sheriff’s office. This facility has 500 beds and employs 65 correction officers. Inmates are allowed one visit per week, via video visits. Appointments for visits must be made via the website http://jailvisitor.com/. Visitation appointments are available for Tuesday – Thursday, from 7:20 pm to 9:35 pm, Saturday from 8:00 am to 11:25 am, and Sunday from 8:00 am to 9:35 pm. All visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
