The DeKalb County Jail houses most of the area inmates, and generally houses over 200 inmates daily. The Chief Jail Administrator is Jonathan Langley, and there are 46 staff members at the jail. Video terminals may be used for visitation, but an appointment must be made in advance. Each visit is limited to 3 visitors per inmate, and a visit may be no longer than 30 minutes.

The other larger police department is the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Jeff Shaver. Divisions within the Sheriff’s office include animal control, court security, investigations, major crimes, detention, marine patrol, street patrol and narcotics.

The Cherokee County Detention Center typically houses about 100 inmates each day and employs about 20 staff members. Inmates are allowed visitors 7 days a week, by video only. Onsite visits are 15 minutes, remote visits are 20 minutes, and both must be scheduled 24 hours in advance through the website.
