The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office is the larger police department in the area, and the office is run by Sheriff John Shearon. He’s been serving as the elected sheriff since 2014. The Sheriff’s Office is located in Clanton, and department divisions include investigations, patrol, courthouse security, and corrections.

The Chilton County Jail houses generally houses about 200 inmates daily. The commander of the jail is Captain Trae Barfield, and there are 25 corrections officers at the jail. Inmates are allowed to have one 30-minute visit each week. Appointments for visitation can be made by calling 205-755-1053 between 3pm and 7pm the day before the visit. Visitation is from 1pm to 3pm Monday-Friday.
