Established in 1818, Pikeville was the original county seat, until it moved to Hamilton in 1883.  The county got its name from General Francis Marion (aka Swamp Fox, from the Revolutionary War) from South Carolina.  Alcohol is sold in some cities, but the county is dry.  The land in this case was inhabited by the Chickasaw Indians

Visiting Hours

Anyone wishing to sign in for Sunday Visitation MUST present a valid government issued ID.  Acceptable forms are state issued Driver License, state issued Non-Driver Identification, military ID, current work ID, or valid passports.

  • General inmates:  one thirty-minute visit each week
  • Trustee inmates:   two thirty-minute visits each week

Two (2) visitors will be allowed per visitation session assuming both visitors want to swap out during the session.  Visitation will be allowed at the Marion County Jail from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM on the following days:

  • A – Block, Tuesday
  • Isolation and Protective Custody, Wednesday
  • B – Block, Thursday
  • Female Block, Friday
  • Trustee Block, Saturday

Sending mail to Inmates

  • All incoming mail and outgoing mail must be on a plain white post card (except legal mail, 3 photos, and money orders)
  • Any other mail received in envelopes will be returned to sender
  • Any mail that has been sprayed with scents (perfume or cologne) or chemicals, color cards, etc. will also be returned to sender   

The following are NOT allowed on postcards/mail: stickers, newspaper clippings, computer printouts, cards of any kind (Birthday, Anniversary, etc.).  If the postcard contains profanity or sexual explicit content, it will be returned to sender.  If any of these are included, the postcard/mail will not be passed on to the inmate.  

All mail must have a complete return address.   Any mail without a return address will be discarded.  This is for the safety and security of the jail.  Do no put any labels, mailing labels, or any other items that sticks to the postcard.  This is due to people sending drugs and contraband hidden under the labels.
