The Hale County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency in the county. It provides police services through its various divisions which include Corrections, Uniform Services, and the Investigative & Support Services Division. The Uniformed Services Division is the most visible division of the HCSO. It is comprised of a Uniformed Patrol Unit, a Sex Offender Unit, a K-9 unit, a Training Unit, and a Special Operations Unit. These officers are responsible for enforcing the laws, answering calls for service, serving criminal warrants, issuing traffic citations, and serving special orders from the courts. The Investigative & Support Services Division, on the other hand, consists of the Criminal Investigations Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit Civil Process Unit, and the Warrant Service Team. The HCSO is headed by Sheriff Kenneth Ellis. He serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the county. The second-in-command is Chief Deputy Jason McCrory. He oversees the day-to-day operations of the entire department.
