217 South Hamburg Avenue
Butler, AL 36904

County History:
Butler is the county seat for Choctaw county, which was established in December 1847 and named in honor of the Choctaw American Indians. Population in the county was highest in 1920, thanks to the lumber industry. Unfortunately, the sawmills fell during the Great Depression. Following that oil drilling was most successful until the 1970s when they lost profits. The area is home to the Mount Sterling Methodist Church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
