Dale County can be found in the southeast corner of Alabama. It was named after General Samuel Dale who was an American frontiersman, known as the “Daniel Boone of Alabama.” The county seat is Ozark which is also the largest city in the area. Based on the 2010 census, there are 50,251 people residing in the county. Its total area measures 563 square miles. The adjacent counties are Barbour County in the north, Henry County in the east, Houston County in the southeast, Geneva County in the southwest, Coffee County in the west, and Pike County in the northwest.

The Dale County Sheriff’s Office is headed by Sheriff Wally Olson who serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the county. Chief Deputy Mason Bynum is the second-in-command. He oversees the daily operations of the entire department and serves as commander of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team. The DCSO is comprised of several divisions such as the Civil Division, Criminal Investigations, Patrol, and the Sex Offender Division.

Dale County Jail Information

The Dale County Jail is the primary detention facility for all law enforcement agencies in the county. This facility houses individuals charged and awaiting trial as well as individuals arrested on warrants, those serving sentences for misdemeanor crimes, persons placed on holds by Alabama Parole and Probation, individuals sentenced to and awaiting beds in Alabama Department of Corrections or Community Corrections, people sentenced by municipal courts in the county as well as others placed here on holds for other agencies. The jail can house up to 116 inmates.
