DeKalb County Jail Inmates

The Corrections Division of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the DeKalb County Jail. This facility houses individuals who are awaiting trial, those sentenced to serve time less than one year, and those awaiting transfer to the State of Alabama’s Department of Corrections. The facility also houses individuals arrested by municipal police departments and federal inmates under the care of the United States Marshal’s Office. Approximately 2,800 inmates go in and out of the jail every year. It has an average population of 235. There are 46 staff members headed by Chief Jail Administrator David Smith.

The DeKalb County Jail maintains an online database of all inmates currently housed in the facility. Each inmate’s profile contains the inmate’s name, booking photo, inmate ID, booking date, charges, bond, age, gender, race, address, and arresting agency.

Inmates at this facility are allowed visitation. All visits must be scheduled using the Kiosk in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office or by going to NCIC.com. Each inmate is allowed 3 visitors per visit. Each visit is limited to 30 minutes.

It was named in honor of Baron Johann de Kalb who served as a major general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The county seat and the largest city is Fort Payne. Based on the 2010 census, 71,109 people reside in this county. Its total area measures 779 square miles.
