The Montgomery Police Department is located on North Ripley Street, and the Chief of Police is Ernest N. Finley, Jr. The police department employs more than 500 police officers.

The Municipal Jail is headed by Major Tyrone Banks. Visitation with male inmates is on Saturdays from 8 am to 10:30 am and 12 pm to 4 pm for federal prisoners and inmates awaiting trial, and on Sundays from 8 am to 10:30 am and 12 pm to 3 pm for convicts. Visitation with female inmates is on Sundays from 3 pm to 5 pm.
