Morgan County can be found in the northern region of Alabama. It was originally called Cotaco County before being renamed in honor of Daniel Morgan, an American Revolutionary War General from Virginia. The county seat is Decatur which is also the largest city. Based on the 2010 census, there are 119,490 people residing in this county. The total area measures 599 square miles. The adjacent counties are Madison County (northeast), Marshall County (east), Cullman County (south), Lawrence County (west), and Limestone County (northwest).
