The Etowah County Detention Center is a minimum to medium security facility that is comprised of 10 housing units. Individuals housed in this facility are those awaiting trial or have been sentenced to serve time in the county jail. The facility can hold up to 950 inmates.

Inmates at the Etowah County Detention Center are allowed to visit with family and friends. All visits are held on Sunday through Wednesday, from 9am to 5pm. Visits must be scheduled ahead of time by the inmate/detainee. All visits are conducted via video. Visitors can only see one inmate per day. Inmates are allowed 1 visit per day and a maximum of 2 visits per week.

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Detention Deputy. All candidates must be a US citizen and a resident of Alabama. They must also be at least 19 years old, possess a valid high school diploma (or equivalent), and have a valid Alabama Driver’s License. All applicants must be of good health and physically fit. They will be required to pass a thorough drug screening, medical examination, psychological test, and a polygraph exam.

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement services to the citizens of the county. It is comprised of several divisions including Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Corrections, Warrant, Civil Paper, and Special Operations. The head of the ECSO is Sheriff Jonathon W. Etowah County Overview

Etowah County can be found in the northern region of Alabama. Its name comes from a Cherokee word which means “edible tree”. The county seat and the largest city is Gadsden. It has a population of 104,430 based on the 2010 census. Its total area measures 549 square miles which makes it the smallest county in the state. The adjacent counties are DeKalb County in the north, Cherokee County in the east, Calhoun County in the southeast, St. Clair County in the southwest, Blount County in the west, and Marshall County in the northwest.
